Security Glass Film FAQ's

Security glass film is a clear, durable polyester film applied to existing windows and doors to strengthen the glass and help hold it together if it’s struck or broken. It helps reduce the risk of injury from shattered glass and adds an extra layer of resistance against impacts, accidents, vandalism or attempted break-ins.

Most security films are optically clear and very discreet — in many cases it’s difficult to tell film has been applied at all. Some customers choose to add a small “Protected by security film” sticker as a visual deterrent.

Standard installations are done on the interior surface of the glass to protect the film from weather and ensure long-lasting performance. In some commercial or high-risk setups, installations on both sides are possible with specialist attachment systems.

While no film can make glass completely unbreakable, security film slows down forced entry and makes breaking through more difficult. This increased resistance can deter opportunistic intruders and give time for a response.

Yes — security film can be installed on residential and commercial properties alike. It’s effective for windows, doors, skylights or any glass surface where enhanced safety and protection are desired.

High-quality security films professionally installed can last many years with proper care. The exact lifespan depends on exposure conditions, glass type, and whether the installation is interior or exterior.

In addition to reinforcement, many security films also help block UV rays, reduce glare, and provide some level of solar heat control — depending on the film choice.

Clean security film with a soft cloth and non-abrasive cleaner. Avoid sharp objects, abrasive pads or ammonia-based solutions. Allow any new film to cure fully (sometimes up to several weeks) before heavy cleaning.

Yes — security film can be professionally removed without damaging the underlying glass. It’s best to have removal done by experienced installers to ensure a smooth, scratch-free result.

Security film thickness varies. Thicker films (e.g., 8 mil and above) generally offer better impact resistance and entry delay, while lighter films are suited to basic anti-shatter protection. The right choice depends on your security goals.
